STREET HARASSMENT STARTS YOUNG
Published: 9 November 2024
ABOUT
This bold and empowering toolkit takes an unflinching look at what street harassment truly is—examining its many forms, its pervasive nature, and the deep-rooted reasons why it exists. We explore how this violence begins at a young age, who it impacts, and why it's not just an individual issue, but a societal one.
Through a legal lens, we break down the penal and constitutional frameworks around street harassment, holding the law accountable and demanding stronger protections. We also look at the profound, long-lasting effects street harassment has on individuals and communities—and how society in both subtle and overt ways, perpetuates this harm.
But we don’t stop there. This toolkit amplifies the voices of those who have lived through street harassment, offering their stories as powerful testaments to the urgency of this issue. It also provides concrete ways that everyday people can become allies in the fight against street harassment, stepping up to challenge the status quo and creating a culture of respect and safety.
Finally, we present policy recommendations that push for real, systemic change and offer additional resources for anyone who wants to learn more and take action. This is a call to action—a demand for justice, accountability, and the collective will to dismantle street harassment once and for all. Together, we can and will change the narrative.
