About
JOY in Public Spaces is our heartfelt recurring call-out, inviting YOU across India to share those radiant everyday moments of joy that light up our shared public life. Despite street harassment and exclusion, these spaces burst with laughter, movement, care, celebration, pause, and connection—we see it, we live it, and we want to celebrate it together.
Through your photos, we want to shine a powerful spotlight on the joy you create, witness, and carry forward in parks, streets, markets, festivals, public transport, and all the beautiful in-between moments of moving through our cities. Public spaces mean streets, open areas, markets, facilities—and for us, also those precious transit moments on buses, autos, or walks that make life feel alive.
SUBMISSIONS
We invite photo submissions from across India that capture moments of joy in public spaces — while walking, waiting, commuting, celebrating, gathering, pausing, or simply passing through. Photos may include parks, streets, markets, festivals, public transport, auto rides, bus rides, train or metro journeys, views from a car or two-wheeler, and other shared everyday moments in public life.
You can send us your photos in any of these ways:
Email us your photo/s along with your name, city, and a short caption or note about the moment.
DM us on Instagram with your photo/s and details.
Message us on LinkedIn with your submission and details.
Please include:
Your name
Your city/town/village
A short caption about the photo or the joy in that moment
Your Instagram handle or social media handle, if you’d like us to tag you
For the monthly showcase, please send your submissions by the 15th of every month. The photos go live last week of every month. Following that, submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis, allowing you to share your photos at any time.

For this call-out, public spaces include shared everyday environments such as streets, parks, markets, open spaces, public facilities, public transport, auto rides, bus rides, train or metro journeys, and moments captured while walking or travelling through the city.

We are looking for moments of joy in public life — celebration, humour, friendship, rest, movement, care, community, everyday beauty, cute stray dog encounters, festival scenes, and small moments that make public spaces feel alive.

Phone photos and camera shots both work beautifully! Send us clear, well-lit photos—we love your authentic joy moments exactly as you captured them from everyday life. No professional equipment needed; your real spark matters more than perfection.

If someone is clearly identifiable, submit only if you have their consent or it was captured in a public setting during a natural moment. For older treasured photos where this isn't possible, use your best judgment—we trust your good faith.
