JOY in Public Spaces is INAC India’s recurring photo series celebrating everyday moments of joy in the places we share.

We are looking for the laughter, movement, care, celebration, pause and connection that make public life feel alive: on streets, in parks and markets, during festivals, on buses, autos, trains and metro journeys, or in the small in-between moments of moving through a city, town or village.

JOY makes space for the moments of freedom, connection and delight that people continue to create and cherish in public—while recognising that not everyone gets to move through these spaces with equal safety or ease.

Your photograph does not need to be perfect. A phone photo or camera photograph is equally welcome. We want to see the joy you create, witness and carry with you in public.

What to send

For each JOY edition, you can submit up to 3 original photographs taken by you.

Please include:

  • Your name

  • Your city, town or village

  • A short caption about the photograph or the joy in that moment (optional)

  • Your Instagram or social-media handle, if you would like us to tag you

For JOY: October Edition, submissions are open until 20 October 2026, 11:59 p.m. IST.

  • Public spaces can include streets, footpaths, parks, markets, bus stops, railway stations, trains, metros, autos, community grounds and other shared places where everyday life unfolds.

  • Anyone in India can submit a photograph.

  • We are looking for photographs that capture joy in public life: friendship, movement, rest, care, play, celebration, community, humour, colour, everyday beauty or small moments that make you smile.

  • No. Photographs taken on a phone or camera are both welcome. What matters is the moment you are sharing.

  • Yes. Please submit only original photographs that you have taken.

  • You can submit up to 3 photographs for each edition.

  • Please use the form at the bottom of this page. Submitting through the form helps us organise each photograph with its caption, location, credit and contact details.

  • We may not be able to feature every submission. Selected photographs will be credited using the name and social-media handle you provide.

  • Please be mindful of people’s privacy, safety and dignity. If someone is clearly identifiable, ensure that submitting the photograph will not put them at risk or compromise their privacy.
