aRTIVISM

Art that reclaims streets, stories, and public spaces.

ABOUT

Art is one of our strongest tools for change. It captures attention, stirs emotion, and can move people from passive agreement to active solidarity against street harassment.

At It’s Not A Compliment India, we use artivism—art + activism—to spark conversations about power, safety, and belonging in public spaces, and to imagine cities where everyone can move freely and with dignity.

Why Art + Activism?

Art reaches people where policies and statistics often cannot. It invites us to feel, not just to know.

By using visual art, installations, photography, and workshops, we:

  • Surface lived experiences of street harassment and discrimination in public spaces.

  • Connect communities across identities through shared stories and emotions.

  • Make complex ideas like intersectionality and consent tangible and accessible.

  • Turn everyday streets, plazas, and buildings into sites of dialogue, care, and resistance.

Our work is grounded in intersectional feminism and the belief that safer streets for all require not only laws and systems, but also shifts in culture, imagination, and everyday behaviour.
